Bringing the cows in
At the Cold-Market Academy in Gloucester on Sunday, I think I mentioned the member of my team who goes into Ipswich twice a week to collect her appointments. She does this regularly. I think I likened it to bringing in the cows on the farm. It’s just something that has to be done.
I was thinking about this today. Today was a real gift. I had spent the whole of the last glorious weekend in stuffy training rooms and today the diary was empty – and if this business doesn’t mean that you can seize an empty day and do what you want with it, then we might as well all go out and get jobs.
So my wife and I decided to walk down to the Waterfront Café to sit in front of what must be one of the best views in the world for oven roasted sardines, vine tomatoes and a glass of rosé (OK so then I had brioche bread and butter pudding with ice cream but I wasn’t going to mention that.)
Anyway, before all this happened I said: “I’ll just nip into town to get an appointment.”
And I did.
If you’re wondering how it happened, a young woman came past carrying a parcel. I said the script to her. She said she was in a hurry. I said “That’s OK” and said the script to her again. Eight minutes later I was shaking her hand, saying how much I looked forward to seeing her on Wednesday at two O’clock – and all the while wondering if she was ever going to go so I could get on with filling in some more forms…
